Craig Pedersen Quartet/Quintet
Formed in 2011, the Craig Pedersen Quartet came together to perform the compositions of Montréal-based trumpeter Craig Pedersen. Their 2017 recording Approaching the Absence of Doing saw the addition of a second drummer to their line-up, to make a double-drum quintet.
The quartets 2015 release, Ghosts, has been called “..a compelling statement, both haunting and energetic.” (Avant Music News), and noted to “suggests roots in the 1960s avant-garde – the braying, village-band dirges of Albert Ayler…and the linked suites of Don Cherry.” (Stuart Broomer, WholeNote Magazine).
“The power and precision that they bring to this high expression of form is a testament to their creativity, and the vision of their bandleader. There are few quartets working today who can bring this level of excitement and forward thinking to their music.” (Mark Molnar, Blackbough Records)
